Agra. In Fatehpur Sikri on Monday afternoon, two bike-borne men promised to drop a farmer to the town, made him sit between them, and stole 34,160 rupees from his pocket on the way. After this, they dropped the farmer midway and fled. The police have formed a team to begin an investigation and are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed along the route.

How the incident occurred

The victim, farmer Surendra Gehlot, son of Prem Singh, is a resident of village Olenda. He had sold his millet crop at the mandi premises located on the highway for 34,160 rupees. He kept the money in an inner pocket of his shirt and was waiting for a vehicle at the bypass turn intersection to go to the town.

During this time, two bike-borne men arrived there. They offered to take the farmer to the town and made him sit between them. It is alleged that instead of heading towards the town, the bike was turned towards Kiraoli. On the way, the farmer's pocket was picked and the cash was stolen. Then, they left him midway and fled.

Police action

The farmer reported the incident to the local police station. Upon receiving the information, the police inspected the spot and formed a team. The ACP of Kheragarh stated that they have received information about the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage. According to him, appropriate action will be taken after the investigation. Information regarding the identification or arrest of the bike-borne men has not yet emerged. Details regarding the sections under which the case has been registered are also not available.

Caution for farmers returning from the mandi

Farmers returning with cash after selling their crops can often become targets for such individuals. Therefore, it is considered safer to avoid sitting between strangers on a bike, not to disclose information about cash to anyone, and to receive payments directly into a bank account whenever possible. In the event of such an incident, inform the police immediately.
