Workers have been on strike for a week

NHM contractual workers have been on strike for a week over demands including equal pay for equal work. On Monday, about 40 workers had gathered at Awas Vikas Colony in Farrukhabad city to participate in the protest organized in Lucknow.

Dispute started over bus keys

According to information, the police had taken the keys of the workers' bus parked in the colony. This led to a dispute between the contractual workers and the police. It is alleged that the workers took the keys from the police officer (diwan) present at the spot and also took his mobile phone. After this, they all boarded the bus and left for Lucknow. The side of the contractual workers has not come forward regarding this allegation.

Bus chased, attempt to stop in Jahanganj

Upon receiving information about this, the Kadirigate police station in-charge left with a force to follow the bus. Simultaneously, the Jahanganj police station was also informed to stop the bus. The police tried to stop the bus in front of the Jahanganj police station, but the driver did not stop.

The bus stopped about 500 meters ahead of the police station due to a pothole on the road and a truck coming from the opposite direction. During this time, police personnel boarded the bus and did not allow it to proceed.

Protests on the road, foot march

When stopped by the police, the contractual workers got off the bus, sat on the road, and started raising slogans. Kadirigate police station in-charge Kapil Kumar tried to persuade them, during which a heated exchange took place between both sides. After this, the workers also carried out a foot march in Jahanganj.

Workers sent to CMO office

After some time, the workers boarded the bus again and started for Lucknow, but the police stopped them again and asked the driver to take everyone to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office. Meanwhile, most of the workers left in other vehicles. After about an hour of commotion, the police put five to six employees in the bus and sent them to the CMO office.

Current status

The available information does not mention any case being registered against anyone or anyone being taken into custody. No information has come to light regarding any action taken by the police on the allegation of taking the mobile phone.
