The Supreme Court has extended the deadline for Mokama MLA Anant Singh to surrender in the Dularchand Yadav murder case from 1 December to 4 December 2026. According to reports, Anant Singh's side had cited his daughter's wedding scheduled for 25 November. Now, he must surrender to the concerned investigating officer or the court by or before 4 December.

The court's latest order

Considering the plea regarding his daughter's wedding and associated family functions, the court has granted an additional three-day extension. Along with this, the directive for the Bihar Police and the investigating officer to complete the investigation and file a supplementary chargesheet within four months remains in effect. According to reports, the case will be heard again after four months.

What was the original order

In the hearing on 30 October, the Supreme Court had stayed the Patna High Court's order dated 19 March 2026, under which Anant Singh had been granted bail in the Dularchand Yadav murder case. The court had directed him to surrender by 1 December. According to reports, the court stated that while granting bail, the High Court did not properly consider the number of cases registered against him and the gravity of the charges, and that a serious matter like murder cannot be viewed merely as a political dispute. Following the order, Anant Singh had said that he would surrender.

What is the Dularchand Yadav murder case

This case dates back to 30 October 2025, when violence occurred during the Bihar Assembly elections while campaigning for Jan Suraj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Mokama. At that time, Anant Singh was contesting from Mokama on a JD(U) ticket. Dularchand Yadav was campaigning in support of the Jan Suraj candidate. During the campaign, the convoys of both sides came face-to-face, and Dularchand Yadav died in the violence that ensued. Anant Singh was arrested and sent to jail in this case, and he won the election from Mokama while in jail. He is an accused in this case, and a verdict on the charges is yet to be delivered by the court.

Expulsion from JD(U)

Prior to this, on 24 October, the JD(U) had expelled Anant Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, from the party for six years. The party had accused them of campaigning against its candidate Neeraj Kumar Singh in the Legislative Council elections and supporting the Jan Suraj candidate. The JD(U) has also recommended to the Assembly Speaker that Anant Singh's membership be cancelled.
